Thunder Bay Selected for Regional Economic Development through Immigration (REDI) Pilot-2025
January 17, 2025
On January 17, 2025, the Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC) announced its selection for the **Regional Economic Development through Immigration (REDI) pilot**, an initiative by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD). This pilot aims to enhance economic immigration in communities outside the Greater Toronto Area.
The REDI pilot is designed to assist local employers in attracting and retaining skilled workers, addressing workforce shortages, and promoting long-term economic growth. Participating employers can support new or existing employees in obtaining permanent residence, thereby strengthening their workforce and contributing to regional economic stability.
Running until December 31, 2025, the pilot serves the Thunder Bay Census Metropolitan Area (CMA). The CEDC has been granted up to 200 nominations through the Ontario Immigration Nominee Program’s (OINP) Employer Job Offer Stream. These nominations are crucial for local employers aiming to fill or retain skilled positions to meet growing demands.
Jamie Taylor, CEO of CEDC, expressed gratitude for the selection, stating that the pilot not only supports employers in meeting workforce needs but also enhances the region's economic vitality. The CEDC also acknowledged the support of the Thunder Bay City Council in their application for the REDI pilot.
In the coming weeks, the CEDC will provide further details about the pilot, including application procedures, eligibility criteria, information workshops, and ways to connect with the MLITSD Immigration Promotion and Employer Outreach team. Employers and interested parties are encouraged to follow the CEDC’s channels for updates.
