How does the election result affect Canadian immigration?

What are the implications of the election result for Canadian immigration?

There should be few major policy changes in Canadian immigration over the next few years as a consequence of the election outcome. The election of another minority Liberal government should also have little direct impact on immigration policy. The Liberal Party has been able to implement its immigration agenda without much controversy or opposition since 2019. Instead, the opposition parties have focused on holding the government to account on other issues such as its response to the pandemic, economic and fiscal policies, and foreign affairs issues such as Canada’s response to the crisis in Afghanistan.

As such, we should expect a continuation of the Liberal’s immigration agenda that has been implemented since 2015. This means an ongoing commitment to welcoming high levels of immigration to support Canada’s post-pandemic economic recovery, as well as a commitment to reuniting families, helping refugees, and welcoming other global talent such as temporary foreign workers and international students.

According to Liberals, they will support temporary foreign workers In order to streamline application processes, a Canadian Trusted Employer stream will be created. Furthermore, the application process will be improved. Global Talent Stream To allow companies to hire and recruit workers, the government should simplify permit renewals, implement the two-week standard, and introduce an employer hotline.
