How you can apply for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP)

How you can apply for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP)

To apply for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP) in Canada, you must have graduated from a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada and have a valid study permit. You must also apply for the PGWP within 90 days of receiving written confirmation from your educational institution that you have met the requirements for completing your program of study.

Here are the steps to apply for a PGWP in Canada:

  1. Make sure you are eligible for a PGWP. To be eligible, you must:
  • Have graduated from a DLI in Canada
  • Have a valid study permit
  • Apply for the PGWP within 90 days of receiving written confirmation that you have completed your program of study
  1. Gather all the necessary documents and information. You will need to provide the following documents with your application:
  • A completed application form for a PGWP
  • Proof that you have graduated from a DLI in Canada, such as a transcript or diploma
  • A valid study permit
  • Proof of your immigration status in Canada, if you are not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Two recent passport-sized photos
  • The processing fee for the PGWP
  1. Submit your application. You can apply for a PGWP online or by mail.

If you apply online, you will need to create a MyCIC account and submit your application through the account. You can upload your supporting documents electronically through the MyCIC account.

If you apply by mail, you will need to print out the application form and mail it, along with your supporting documents and the processing fee, to the address provided on the form.

  1. Wait for a decision on your application. Processing times for PGWP applications can vary, so it is important to check the current processing times on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website.

Once a decision has been made on your application, you will receive a letter from IRCC with information about the next steps. If your application is approved, you will receive a work permit that will allow you to work in Canada for a specified period of time.
