In fall 2022, Canada's immigration system will change how occupations are classified.
NOC skill levels are replaced with the TEER system
In place of the current approach of categorizing jobs based on skill type, the Canadian government will now categorize jobs based on a new training, education, experience, and responsibilities (TEER) system.
NOC skill levels are currently divided into four categories: A, B, C, and D.
In NOC 2021, this will be replaced with the TEER system, which has six categories: TEER categories 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4.
In what ways does this affect immigrants?
Immigration and foreign worker applicants will need to ensure that their NOC complies with eligibility criteria for the program they are applying to once NOC 2021 has been implemented by IRCC and ESDC.
