Studying in Canada Has Many Benefits

Studying while working is possible! A work permit off-campus is available to international students.

During your normal school schedule, you can work 20 hours/week in any job position you wish. Your full-time employment is allowed during school breaks and holidays.

You are welcome to bring your family along!

Your spouse and family are welcome to join you in Canada while you study. Your spouse can work full-time in any position they choose in Canada with an open work permit.

Children who are dependent on you can attend school!

You do not need a student visa for your dependent children to attend Canada's world-class public schools.

Work Permit for Post-Graduate Students!

You and your spouse are eligible for an open post-graduate work permit for at least the length of your study program. To ensure continuity of status in Canada, you are allowed to work and live in Canada while your application for Canadian Permanent Residence is being processed.

There are several options for individuals who want to study in Canada and eventually apply for permanent residency (PR) in the country. These options include:

  1. The Canadian Experience Class, which is for international students who have graduated from a Canadian institution and have at least one year of full-time work experience in Canada. This program allows international students to apply for PR without a job offer.
  2. The Federal Skilled Worker program, which is for individuals who have the skills, education, and work experience needed to contribute to the Canadian economy. To be eligible, you must have at least one year of full-time work experience in a skilled occupation and meet certain language and education requirements.
  3. The Provincial Nominee Program, which allows provinces and territories to nominate individuals who want to live and work in their region. Each province and territory has its own specific criteria and requirements for PR, and some may have streams specifically for international students.
  4. The Canadian Studies program, which is for international students who have completed a program of study in Canada and want to apply for PR. To be eligible, you must have completed a program of at least two years in duration at a designated learning institution and have a valid study permit.

In general, studying in Canada can provide a pathway to PR for international students who meet the eligibility requirements for one of these programs. It is important to research the specific requirements and consult with an immigration lawyer or consultant if necessary.
