For sponsorship purposes, a dependent child may be your own child or those of the person you are sponsoring. According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, they must:

  • Determine if you are eligible to sponsor a dependent child. To sponsor a dependent child, you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and be 18 years of age or older. You must also be able to financially support the child and any other dependents you have.
